Job Description
This engineer is responsible for doing impact analysis on incoming change requests, making designs, development and unit testing, acceptance testing support, system monitoring and maintenance, and incident resolution. He or she will work together with the other Java / PHP developers in the team and with key users.Tasks & Responsibilities
- Validate and clarify user requirements.
- Analyze the impact of change requests on existing code base, and assess the amount of implementation work required. Where needed, create logical designs.
- Implement requirements in Java and PHP, and perform unit and integration tests.
- Assist in deploying solutions to the production environment, using a professional deployment process and tooling.
- Diagnose and fix bugs and incidents.
- Answer end-user questions.
- Help to ensure that system performance remains good.
Knowledge
- Solid experience in developing enterprise applications using Java, Spring and Hibernate
- Solid experience in using the following development tools: Eclipse, Perforce or Subversion, Maven.
- Solid experience in developing web applications using PHP5
- Front end experience (CSS/HTML /Javascript).
- Good experience in all activities along the software development lifecycle: design, development, testing and maintenance.
- Some domain knowledge in logistical processes or call center applications, and some work experience in consumer-related industries or ideally the consumer electronics industry.
- Preferably some experience in working with both SQL Server and MySQL.
Desired Skills & Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in IT, 3 years of experience in Java, and at least 1 year of experience in PHP. Good abilities in writing SQL queries.- Ability to align with key users, to clarify their requests
- Be able to work according to defined processes for development, testing, deployment and documentation.
- Be able to work in a dynamic environment with evolving end-user demands. Be proactive in signalling issues
- Be sensitive and pragmatic in balancing short- and long-term solutions, in balancing performance vs. costs, and in using frameworks and methodologies.
- Be able to work in a cross-geographical team.
- Pragmatic, flexible and hands on attitude
- Good analytical thinking
- Persistent about solving logical issues and bugs
- Fluent in English
